RHEEM 42VR5040 HOT WATWER HEATER
By Brent Robertson
The unit was received in ready to use condition. I removed the packing before signing the receiving docs. ABF Trucking did a great job and there was no damaged noted. The pallet was put in the garage as directed. The RHEEM unit was made in Mexico but it is hard to find USA production today. I will install the unit Wednesday. A Thermal Expansion unit will be installed also. Looks like installation cost will be $250. I had estimates from $600 to $225 from bonded plumber. WOW!By the way the utility has a $100 rebate on units with a .62 or higher EF rating. Sixty days to submit the paperwork. Pay attention

Came From a Tankless Water Heater and Dont Regret It
By Michael J. Eckman
After 3 years with a Bosch Aquastar 1600H NG tankless hot water heater (search for my review on Amazon), I went back to a tank heater and bought this unit. The price with shipping came out to around $590 which was significantly less than what I would have paid for a comparable high-efficiency 50 gallon unit from a local retailer.A note on the delivery process is that although the unit did arrive in good condition on the day it was supposed to, during the ordering process at Amazon, it allowed me to select the delivery time. I selected 8 - 10am and figured I would work half a day from home to sign for the delivery. The trucking company did not show up until after 4pm. Had I known this, I could have worked a full day and not used time off waiting for them. Oh well, I dont blame Amazon or Rheem, so Im not going to let that affect my opinion of the product, just wanted to let everyone know that this could happen to you.Installation was as expected for a typical hot water tank. In my area, I cannot use any flexible water or gas lines, so everything had to hard connected, which isnt a huge deal, just requires a little more patience to make everything fit.One word I'll say on installation which isnt obvious by reading the manual, if you are hard wiring copper pipe directly to the Hot and Cold sides of the tank, you MUST use a di-electric union coming out of the tank. A di-electric union is required anytime you are connecting two different types of metal together. Without one, over time, corrosion will appear. My water lines are 1/2" and the output of the tank is 3/4" so I needed a di-electric union that is threaded 3/4" on one side and 1/2" sweat on the other end. Aside from this one little trip to the hardware store, the rest of the installation went well. Dont forget to use a tank pan if you are installing this on top of carpet (I would recommend one even if you dont have carpet, but its not a requirement). You must let the tank completely fill with water before igniting the burners! I let the tank fill with water while I was finalizing on the exhaust tubing to shorten the time before I could take my hot shower. Once everything was connected, it took a couple of tries to get it started. One of the troubleshooting steps says that if you have difficulty starting, it could be due to air in your gas line. I was able to resolve this by removing the cap on the sediment trap on the gas line for about 20 seconds (probably not the safest thing to do, but I had the door and windows open in my utility room to vent the gas). After I did that, the tank started on the first try.Once the burners were on, it took a little over an hour to heat the tank to the point where I could take my hot shower. Since Ive had the tank, my girlfriend and I have taken back to back hot showers and havent run out of hot water. We even took one shower while running the dishwasher and a lot of whites (hot water) in the washing machine and not once did we even notice a drop in hot water pressure. So there ya have it. I had no problems installing it, so if you have any experience doing this yourself, it is something that anyone can do. The pictures on Amazon show a white and blue heater, but the unit is actually a dark gray which looks really nice. So far I am very pleased!

i was a little skeptical buying a water heater off the internet, but this thing is great. it was packaged great and the delivery was great. i had it installed in about an hour and a half ( that includes removing the old one). what more can i say except that i have had it for about six months now and have never had a problem. and i never run out of hot water.
