Quality & Quiet

*UPDATED* 08/25/2013I just installed this unit today, took me two days to complete due to the pipe size complications.Instruction manual states 3/4" piping for efficient flow, but since the house contained 1/2" existing piping, I have no pressure or flow problems.I installed the exhaust venting first then mounted the unit, the venting is a concentric 3" center by 5" outer tubing. There are many different types of Rheem styles, I chose to go with the low-profile look (RTG20234) horizontal venting (Not sold at retail stores). Since the low-profile venting comes with a fire shield ring, you can replace it with a square version if you want, I chose to use the low-profile fire shield ring. I decided to cut a 6" hole with a hole saw, even though the venting is 5" I wanted that extra room just in case. Make sure to clear out the wall insulation to prevent fires and don't forget to caulk around the outside of the house. The unit has an adjustable mounting bracket(s). You can either mount with or without 2x4 lumber (not included), I chose the mount with 2x4 lumber so the unit is not directly touching the wall. Mount on a stud(s), recommended.Once the unit is mounted, proceed to install piping as necessary. I went the PEX route rather than Sharkbite, just personal choice, solid copper lines are also an option too. Your choice of valves, I went with Rheem Service Valve Kit with Pressure Relief Valve(RTG20220), that way I can clean the unit with the flush kit (RTG20124), includes pump, piping and a bucket. One last thing, do not forget the Rheem (RTG20150A) 6' Silicon Condensate Drain Tube Kit, any tube with work, but make sure it is rated up to 500 degrees.Check for leaks, and power the unit on. It includes its own temperature adjusting thermostat.The unit fires up quickly and very quiet, depending on the temperature set, the unit is not hot to touch, partially warm, at least from the inside.Once hot water is not needed, unit shuts off instantly. I have two bathrooms, plus kitchen, no struggle keeping the warm/hot coming.*Pictures will be posted soon*

Perfect For My Applicaton

Update Dec 2013:The missing items are no longer sent with the unit. You have to purchase them separately which is not a problem, it's just that it indicated that they came with the unit. I ended up not using the drain at all and simply drain the condensate out the vent.....which it's designed to do anyway.I had the heater installed by a contractor and it works great. If you use the heater for a this or a similar application other than domestic hot water, I strongly recommend buying the LUX WIN100 Programmable Outlet as the heater doesn't work with a thermostat. It comes with a water temperature stat which is also nice.I would also recommend using the Rheem RTG20220AB Service Valve Kit. It makes installation much easier and already has a port for the Rheem AP12993C Pressure Valve which you will need.The Rheem RTG20210 3/5-Inch Horizontal Termination (Vent) Kit for RTG-95DV is a must for this unit and has the necessary 94 degree pitch. You can purchase longer vent pipes if needed, but keep in mind that you cannot cut them, so mount your heater accordingly and don't try to use any other vent piping than Rheem.I have had the unit installed and running for several weeks and it has been flawless.I did heavily insulate the vent pipe. The outgoing gases go out the 3" pipe and the make-up air come around it in the 5" pipe. We just had several days of below zero temps and the vent pipe became cased in ice, would then melt inside and I didn't want water going into the heater. Wrapping the vent in insulation took care of that issue. I am also going to install a rubber vent sleeve over the vent on top of the heater to prevent any moisture from entering the top of the heater.Original Review:The item was received on time and does not appear to have any damage.However, upon inspection, I noticed 2 parts missing.1. No Drain Tubing2. No Pressure Relief Valve (you want to use their valve)Neither one is a super big deal, but is now delaying the installation.I did send a msg to the seller and am waiting for a response, thus the "neutral" rating.
